Trail Notes
- This trail system requires some short-term effort, but it will give back for generations because it's done in a way that's sustainable. Sustainable trails are built to have as little impact on the environment as possible and to integrate with the surrounding landscape. Snow Pond Community Trails are built to make trail use and maintenance as simple and low-cost as possible.
A sustainable trail is one that:
- Supports recreation today and tomorrow with minimal impact on nearby ecosystems.
- Leaves soil intact, allowing vegetation to inhabit the area.
- May requiring pruning or removal of nearby plants to ensure proper trail construction and maintenance.
- Doesn't harm wildlife.
- Requires a minimal amount of trail maintenance.
These trails circle around the land's natural features. It meanders through the wilderness and affords spectacular views. It takes advantage of existing logging roads, very few trees need to be removed. All trees removed will be reserved for use as mulch, board walks, retaining walls. All small vegetation and trimmings will be piled in the woods so they can decompose and return to the soil. Some stones may be rolled to the side with a shovel to reduce hazards in the trail. Some areas need bridges over waterways and over low, wet spots. All foot bridges will be designed to have low impact on the environment. Trails may be marked with signs, ribbons or paint blazes. Scaled Aerial images of Trails and property will be provided to hikers.
The Snow Pond Community Trails provide residents and visitors with over 2.5 miles of groomed trails that take you around a beautifully wooded wetland habitat. Located between Waterville and Augusta off the Pond Road (Route 23), straight across from the Snow Pond Center for the Arts entrance. The trails offer individuals of all ages and abilities access to cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, biking, walking, and running.
Snow Pond’s Maine Recreational Guide offers scheduled educational opportunities through planned discovery walks along the trails that surround the designated wading bird habitat. Participants learn about flora and fauna, wild mushrooms, and general wildlife including beaver, muskrats, fox, deer, wild turkeys, and more.
When you come to campus for a dinner and summer concert, a week-long camp, or a community event, these recreational opportunities in this natural landscape will enhance your overall experience!

Dogs are welcomed on the Snow Pond Community Trails.
Current Trail Conditions
The Snow Pond Community Trails system is open year-round. Trails are groomed in the winter and offer excellent snowshoeing and fat biking. Information is available at the trailhead kiosk and inside the Snow Pond Visitors Center, which is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, except for holidays.

Snow Pond Arts After School
A new structured program that includes academic support, recreation, a healthy snack and arts education,(theatre, music and visual arts) to every child, every day.
Snow Pond Community Music School
The only music school within 30 miles offering both private lessons and group instruction with the area’s finest teachers, whose expertise ranges from classical strings to rock guitar to caribbean steel drums.
Outreach Program
Snow Pond strives to offer music making opportunities to as many students as possible and is proud to partner with neighboring schools and organizations to offer music classes on site at the following partner locations.

Our campus is available to host your event whether it be a community event, music performance, business meeting, wedding, or an event that needs lodging. Snow Pond Center for the Arts is a beautiful setting for indoor and outdoor events. Our campus is truly unique when it comes to having a relaxed setting to host your event.
Weddings – Snow Pond Center for the Arts is the ultimate Maine destination camp-style wedding venue. Nestled on the shores of Lake Messalonskee in the Belgrade Lakes region of central Maine, the setting is ideal for private wedding parties up to 200. House all family, friends and invited guests in our private 1 or 2 bedroom cabins with living room and private bath or Snow Pond’s dormitory for a fraction of the usual cost. They will enjoy lake views, hiking and outdoor activities while you prepare for your ceremony at one of numerous picturesque locations, outside or inside, at one of the most beautiful lakeside settings in Maine. Then gather inside the Lodge for your blue-ribbon, custom designed catered reception followed by dancing and the celebration of a lifetime. Should your needs require a larger space and concert hall quality acoustics, you may want to move your party to Alumni Hall after your reception dinner. Your guests end the evening with a gentle stroll to their private cabin, waking to a classic Maine morning and hearty buffet-style brunch in the Lodge prior to leaving for home.
