Performance-based merit scholarships are awarded to exceptional musicians, based upon proven musical ability, dedication to the musical craft, and the potential for improving the overall experience for all campers. Individuals may win different scholarships in consecutive years but are not eligible to win the same scholarship more than once regardless of the year. Please read the instructions for each scholarship very carefully as the requirements vary.

Auditions for Merit Scholarships will be available for submissions from January 1, 2024 to March 15, 2024 using this application link

Scholarships will be awarded on April 1, 2024.

 

 2024 Scholarships

 

NEMC Second-Century Scholarship: 1-10  winners. $1000-$10,000 scholarship for new or returning students.

  • Eligible Instruments: All instruments and voice
  • Eligible Session: Core NEMC 
  • Audition video requirement: two [2] contrasting pieces that best represent the applicant’s ability (musicianship, tone, range, etc.).

Jerry and Irene Green Scholarship: One winner. $6400, single-session (Core 4-week), full-tuition scholarship for a new or returning student. An applicant cannot win in two consecutive years.

  • Eligible Instruments: Oboe, Bassoon, Viola, Bass, French Horn, Tuba
  • Eligible Session: Core NEMC
  • Audition video requirement: two [2] contrasting pieces that best represent the applicant’s ability (musicianship, tone, range, etc.). Piano accompaniment recommended.

The Greenberg Scholarship: One winner. Single-session (Core, Intensive, or Prelude), full-tuition scholarship for a new or returning BIPOC student. Awarded based on merit and financial need. 

  • Eligible Instruments: All instruments and voice
  • Eligible Session(s): Core or Intensive session
  • Must be a BIPOC student
  • Audition video requirement: two [2] contrasting pieces that best represent the applicant’s ability (musicianship, tone, range, etc.).
  • Required to submit NEMC General Financial Aid Application

Bill and Dorothy Schmearer Scholarship for Jazz Studies: One winner. $6400, Core session, full-tuition scholarship for a new or returning student aged 14 and up.

  • Eligible Instruments: Bass, Drum Set, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet.
  • Eligible Session: Core NEMC
  • Audition video requirement: two [2] contrasting pieces that best represent the applicant’s ability (musicianship, tone, range, etc.).
  • Required to submit NEMC General Financial Aid Application

Leon and Linda Gregorian Merit Scholarship for Violin or Viola: One winner. $1000 scholarship for a new violin or viola student.

  • Eligible Instruments: Violin and Viola
  • Eligible Session: Core NEMC
  • Audition video requirements:
  • Two major and Two minor scales in 3 octaves with arpeggios.
  • One movement of a solo J.S. Bach work of your choice.
    • Violin: First movement of a standard violin concerto from the Classical or Romantic period with piano accompaniment.
    • Viola: First movement of a standard viola concerto from the Baroque period with piano accompaniment or a concert piece for viola with piano accompaniment.

Damon Holton Classical Guitar Scholarship: One winner. $6400, Core session, full-tuition scholarship for a new or returning classical guitar student.

  • Eligible Instrument: Classical Guitar
  • Eligible Session: Core NEMC
  • Audition video requirement: two [2] contrasting pieces that best represent the applicant’s ability (musicianship, tone, range, etc.).
  • Required to submit NEMC General Financial Aid Application

Mae M. Sullivan Scholarship for Voice or Piano: One Winner. $1000 scholarship for a new or returning student. An applicant can only win once.

  • Eligible Instrument: Classical Voice, Musical Theater, or Piano. 
  • Eligible Session: Core NEMC
  • Audition video requirement:
    • Voice- two [2] contrasting pieces that best represent the applicant’s ability (musicianship, tone, range, etc.) 
    • Piano - two [2] contrasting pieces that best represent the applicant's ability

Mary M. Collins Scholarship for Voice and Musical Theater: Multiple winners. $1000-$5000 scholarship for new or returning students. An applicant can only win once.

  • Eligible Instruments: Voice or Musical Theater
  • Eligible Session: Core NEMC
  • Audition video requirement: two [2] contrasting pieces that best represent the applicant’s ability (musicianship, tone, range, etc.).
