simon gomez gallegoSimón Gómez Gallego is currently the Principal Timpanist of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, West Michigan Symphony and Rockford Symphony Orchestra.  This season Mr. Gómez is returning to perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Grant Park Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, Oistrakh Symphony of Chicago, among others.

Mr. Gómez, who is based in Chicago has also performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Detroit, Elgin and Madison Symphony Orchestras. He served as Assistant Principal Percussionist of the Florida Grand Opera in 2010 and performed with the Miami Symphony Orchestra, Boca Raton Sinfonia, and Palm Beach Symphony while residing in Florida.

Born in Medellin, Colombia, Mr. Gómez started his studies at the Instituto Musical Diego Echavarria. He received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Miami and a Post-Master’s Certificate in Percussion Performance from DePaul University. He was a Civic Fellow with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago from 2014 to 2016 and attended the Aspen Music Festival and School for 5 summers.  At Aspen, he was recipient of the Charlie Owen and AACA fellowships.

Also a passionate educator, Mr. Gómez is in the Faculty of the Percussion Scholarship Program of the CSO, the New England Music Camp and the People’s Music School.  Mr. Gomez’s main teachers include David Herbert, Matthew Strauss, Marc Damoulakis, Eric Millstein, Vadim Karpinos, Svet Stoyanov, Ney Rosauro and Ted Atkatz.

Mr. Gómez is endorsed by Sabian Cymbals, Ludwig - Musser, Remo and is a JG Percussion Young Artist
