Sarah Sukeforth is an active and prominent trumpet player from Southern Maine. Ms. Sukeforth started studying trumpet privately at age 9 with Alan King. In her developing years as a high school musician, she participated in music festivals including District, Maine All-State, All-New England, and the All-Eastern Honors Band Festival where she placed second chair in 2011. She is also a two-year winner of the John Phillip Sousa Band Award at Falmouth High School.
Ms. Sukeforth continued her studies at the University of Maine where she studied with Dr. Jack Burt and earned both a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. While at the University of Maine, she received a Four-year Distinguished Student Merit Scholarship for Visual and Performing Arts in the area of Music. Ms. Sukeforth was a four-year member of the University of Maine Symphonic Band, UMaine’s premier band, including one year as principal. She also earned the honor of winning the University of Maine Symphonic Band Solo Competition in 2015. She was a member of UMaine’s chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, a service sorority which helps create positive music experiences at the university and in the local communities. Currently, Ms. Sukeforth is actively playing in numerous ensembles. She is a member of the Casco Bay Wind Symphony, the 207 Wind Orchestra, and can be seen playing often with the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Sukeforth is a founding member of the Portland Trumpet Ensemble which features many of the top professional trumpet players from Southern Maine who perform multiple concerts each year. Her future plans include continuing to teach privately, and to use her education degree as a band director.
