William SchmearerBill Schmearer was appointed to the NEMC faculty in 1984. Among the groups he conducted at NEMC are the Chorale, Concert Band, Stage Band and Jazz Ensemble. Schmearer is retired from the Spring-Ford Area School District, located in the Philadelphia area where he served as Director of Bands and Supervisor of Music for the school district.

Gail LevinskyA native of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, Dr. Gail B. Levinsky is committed to the teaching and training young musicians. Presently serving on the faculty of Susquehanna University, her career began teaching saxophone in the Dallas (TX) area (Grades 6-12) and for the past 24 years in higher education.

Alan Ferber Pic3-time GRAMMY-nominated trombonist-composer-arranger Alan Ferber has been called “one of the jazz world’s premier composers and arrangers for larger groups” by All About Jazz NY. Jazz Times magazine describes Ferber’s compositions as “inspired and meticulous” and the L.A. Weekly deems him “one of the premier modern jazz arrangers of our time.” For the last seven years, he has been recognized as one of the leading trombonists of his generation in Down Beat magazine’s International Critics’ Poll and Readers’ Poll.

WayneA native of St. Louis, MO, Wayne J. du Maine has been performing successfully in the New York City area for over thirty years. As a trumpeter, Wayne has performed and recorded with such ensembles as the New York Philharmonic, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and Orchestra of St. Luke’s. He currently holds the principal chair with the Brooklyn Philharmonic and the American Composers Orchestra.

Daphna SchmidtDaphna Schmidt is a freelance trumpet player and teacher in New York City. A native of Philadelphia, Daphna graduated from Susquehanna University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance – classical and jazz. She also holds a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a Music Education Certificate. She is currently the General Music teacher for grades K-5 at Linden Tree Elementary School in Bronx, New York.

David JohansenDr. David Johansen is the Professor of Trombone at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA and is also a member of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra; he has held both positions for twenty years.

Andrew WillmottAndrew Willmott, an alumnus of NEMC, is the senior trumpet instructor at the Westport Music Center, where he has been teaching students of all ages and levels of ability since 1996. Mr. Willmott has been on our faculty since the summer of 2011, and is an active performer in the greater New York City area where he plays in a variety of styles from classical to contemporary.
