Associate Camp Director / Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Coordinator
Helen Egwu-McDowell is a native of Detroit, Michigan who received both her Masters of Higher Education degree and Bachelor’s in Business Entrepreneurship from Central Michigan University. Helen has worked tirelessly in the field of Higher Education Administration with a focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the past 7 years. Much of her experience has been working hands-on with students in Resident Advising, First Year Curriculum Development, New Student Orientation, and Diversity Education Training Development.
Helen has won awards such as “Diversity Event of the Year” and has been nominated for “Staff Member of the Year” for both her programmatic and mentoring abilities. In the last 3 years, much of her focus has been on issues related to Title IX, Bias Incident Reporting Structures, First Generation College Student Education, and Equitable Hiring Practices in the field of Higher Education. Helen is excited to tackle her first year as the Associate Director and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator at NEMC and is hopeful to bring a breath of fresh ideas and perspectives to this new position.
