image0 6Alex Quinn is a trumpet player, composer, and educator currently living in Brooklyn, New York. Originally a native of South Portland, Maine, he spends his time teaching and performing around New York as well as touring and recording with groups around the country. Alex attended New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance.

Alex’s original music combines elements of jazz, free improvisation, funk, and rock music and he strives to explore the similarities and differences all these genres have. In 2018 he released an album of some of his original music with self-titled album JJ Jhnsn by his band JJ JHNSN, based out of Brooklyn.

Alex has performed with multiple notable musicians such as Dave Holland, Donny McCaslin, Chris Speed, Alan Ferber, Frank Carlberg, and Adam Rogers and recorded on free-jazz guitarist, Joe Morris’ 2019 album entitled Insantiations
Volume II. Last summer Alex toured with ABACUS, a group that was a recipient of the South Arts Jazz Roads grant where he played his original music and taught multiple masterclasses throughout Maine. Recently, Alex just finished a tour with
funk/rock group Birthday Ass and recorded a big band album at Firehouse 12 Studio in New Haven, Connecticut.
